Nordic Walking was popular in the Thirties as a summer training method for long-distance skiers.
Nordic Walking produces an improvement in aerobic resistance and besides training the leg muscles and achieving the correct posture of the body, through the use of ski poles, the muscles of the top part of the body are also trained and toned up ( shoulders, chest and arms)
Generally speaking, we can say that Nordic Walking is 40% more effective than traditional walking.
During the course of the years, lots of studies have been carried out on Nordic Walking which have proved all the benefits that this sport can bring:

  • it is 40% more effective than walking without poles.
  • it increases energy consumption by virtue of the extensive involvement of the muscles (85 % of body muscles, about 600 muscles).
  • it lightens body load during movement and better safeguards ankle, knee and back joints.
  • thanks to the active involvement of the auxiliary muscles of the respiratory system, it increases oxygenation of the body as a whole.
  • it exercises four of the five main forms of physical or conditional qualities: stamina, strength, mobility, coordination
  • it loosens contractions in the shoulder and neck nape area.
